No project is shared. Open your intended project and choose Share current project.
Use Claude Desktop to explore an ELX project, from its schematics to installation plans, cabinet layouts and engineering records. Choose what to share, review the proposed work, and apply changes from ELX.
ELX runs the local connection. You keep control of the project.
Sharing is off by default. Select one open project and a limited access period.
Review a batch in ELX before applying it. Existing project permissions still apply.
Claude’s availability, plan limits and terms apply. An ELX license does not include a Claude subscription.
You need ELX Studio and Claude Desktop running on the same Windows computer. Claude needs an internet connection. Sign in to ELX with an active license. For a cloud project, wait for its current version to load online before sharing.
Claude’s extension installation guideIn ELX Studio for Windows, click Claude in the title bar. In Claude connection, choose Save connector to save the .mcpb file. The connector version must match your installed ELX version exactly. Save and reinstall the matching connector after updating ELX.
Open Claude Desktop and sign in to your own account. Go to Settings → Extensions → Advanced settings → Install Extension and select the saved file. The extension is named ELX Studio. Review its details and complete installation. Double-clicking the file can also open the installer. Your organization may need to allow custom extensions.
Open the drawing in ELX. In Claude connection, select Read only or Propose edits, choose 15, 30 or 60 minutes, then click Share current project. Check the project name before sharing. Installing the connector alone does not share a project.
Keep ELX open. In Claude Desktop, open the chat’s + → Connectors menu and enable the ELX connector. Send the connection-check prompt below to confirm the shared project and permissions. ELX can show Waiting for Claude until Claude makes its first tool request. There is no API key or server URL to enter for this extension.
With Propose edits enabled, Claude can submit a batch of changes. Return to ELX, choose Review changes. Inspect changed values and electrical connections, switch between Before and Proposed, and zoom in on the affected sheets. Then choose Apply changes or Reject. Use Feedback for Claude (optional) when rejecting to explain what needs changing. A changed project can require a fresh proposal. Applied work follows your normal ELX save and synchronization settings. Applying or rejecting does not restart a finished Claude response; return to Claude and ask it to check the proposal status and continue.
Click Disconnect in ELX. Access also ends when the grant expires or you change the open project, ELX account or company. Disconnect in ELX before switching Claude accounts: the local connector cannot identify which Claude account is using it.
No project is shared. Open your intended project and choose Share current project.
The project is shared and ELX is waiting for a connector request. Enable ELX Studio in Claude Desktop and send a prompt that asks it to use ELX.
The connector has reached ELX. Confirm the project name and available permissions in Claude’s reply. This status does not identify the Claude account or show that a drawing change has been made.
A proposal is ready in ELX. Click Review changes to inspect it. Asking Claude to apply it cannot replace your decision in ELX.
For an installation check, expand Connection help in ELX and choose Check connection. It reports ELX’s version and whether the connector is bundled. This checks the ELX side; it does not sign in to Claude or share a project.
The connector gives Claude purpose-built tools for the same project records you edit in ELX. It can inspect the current workspace, measurement scale and engineering information before preparing a proposal. Use the latest ELX release and its matching connector for the capabilities described here.
These are proposals for your review. Dimensions, equipment ratings, prices and test results must come from your information or stated sources. Claude cannot perform physical tests, program a PLC or certify an installation. Configuration authoring and evacuation-plan authoring remain in their dedicated ELX tools. The connector cannot approve an engineering review, change company access or publish a library item. Attached document and STEP file contents are not exposed; attachment metadata may be included in project information. New drawings are marked as user-defined, with a source note and creation date. They are not manufacturer-verified. Private and company library items must already be copied into the shared project to be available through the connector.
Explore the engineering workflows in ELXTell Claude the intended function, exact device models, sheet requirements and any constraints. Choose a prompt that matches the access you granted in ELX. Work through a large drawing in reviewable stages. You can also copy starter prompts directly from ELX’s Start a conversation section.
ELX access: Read only
Confirm the correct project is shared before starting work.
A local connector gives Claude access to local tools. Information returned to Claude is processed by its cloud service.
Read ELX privacy informationThe connector does not scan every project or browse your computer. While a grant is active, Claude may request supported information from that project when it considers it relevant. Shared data can include drawing content, device information, comments, engineering records and any prices or quotation data stored in the shared project.
Open either type of project in ELX and share that project. ELX checks your current license, role, project lock and cloud readiness. Cloud work keeps its existing save and synchronization workflow.
ELX cannot verify your Claude email or detect an account change inside Claude Desktop. End the grant in ELX first, then share again only when the intended account is active. An active grant is not tied to a single Claude conversation.
Disconnecting prevents further project reads and proposals. It does not erase information already sent to a Claude conversation. Your Claude account settings and Anthropic’s terms govern that conversation’s data handling. Only share information you are authorized to send to that service.
Open the intended project in ELX, open Claude connection and choose Share current project. A grant may have expired or ended after a project, account or company change. Keep ELX running while using the connector.
The ELX connector in version 3.1.1 can fail to start in Claude Desktop. Update ELX Studio to version 3.1.2 or later, then open Claude connection in the updated ELX app and choose Save connector. Reinstall that matching .mcpb file in Claude Desktop. Restart the ELX Studio extension; if no restart control is shown, fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop. Then enable ELX in your conversation and share the intended project from ELX. This startup failure happens before project sharing, so sharing the project again alone will not repair it.
Restart Claude Desktop, check that the ELX extension is enabled, then check the chat’s Connectors menu. On a managed Claude account, your administrator may restrict custom extensions. After every ELX update, save and reinstall the connector from that installed version; the app and connector versions must match exactly.
Use the desktop extension installation flow in step 2. Select the saved .mcpb file in Claude Desktop’s Extensions settings. The ELX website address is not a remote MCP server URL. No server address, API key or separate Node.js installation is needed for this desktop extension.
In the installed ELX app, open Claude connection and choose Save connector. Install that file in Claude Desktop, restart Claude Desktop if it still uses the older extension, then share your project again in ELX. A connector downloaded for a newer release will not work with an older ELX installation.
ELX accepts one connector session at a time. Click Disconnect in ELX, close any duplicate ELX connector clients, then share the project again and retry from the intended Claude Desktop instance.
Inspect the reason shown in ELX. Read-only access, an expired grant, a locked project, insufficient permissions, changed project content or unavailable cloud editing can prevent application. Restore the required access and ask Claude for a fresh proposal based on the current drawing. The statuses Project changed · request a fresh proposal and Expired · request a fresh proposal mean the previous batch can no longer be applied.
Applied means ELX accepted the change. Check the normal save and cloud synchronization status before closing or sharing the project. Drawing batches can be undone with ELX’s Undo command. Comments use the discussion history; resolving or reopening a comment is a separate action. If a comment request is interrupted, inspect the original discussion before retrying so the same message is not posted twice.
Claude can assist with supported drawing tasks and may make mistakes. You remain responsible for circuit design, equipment selection, wiring requirements and engineering review. ELX’s design checks do not certify electrical safety or standards compliance.
This connection is a local desktop extension for Claude Desktop on the same Windows computer as ELX. ELX does not provide a remote connector for Claude on the web or mobile.
Claude is a product of Anthropic. ELX Studio is independently developed. This connection does not imply affiliation with or endorsement by Anthropic.
